I have always loved modern abstract art. It can touch and inspire me on levels that go far beyond the natural curiosity that such images provoke. When I encountered for the first time the work of one of France’s most famous living artists, I was utterly overwhelmed. « He paints enormous black canvases, … hundreds of them » Françoise had told me.
This prolific artist has, over his lifetime, experimented and refined his black paint to the degree that its application takes on a truly textured sensuous quality… that at scale, leaves the viewer completely awestruck. Each piece was unique. Each required absolute reflection and concentration. A meditation.
