The lovely people at The Whitehouse Gallery in Kirkcudbright in the Scottish Borders invited me a while back to participate in their first exclusively photographic exhibition and it's amazing how quickly that time has come around... for we open on the 10th February 2018 for a month.
We're a diverse bunch on show, with some truly exceptional documentary photography rubbing shoulders with a variety of landscape work, the aim of the exhibition being to illustrate the people of Scotland and something of the surroundings that have shaped them. Please click here for the gallery link
Kirkcudbright itself is lively historic town and fishing port on the River Dee with a vibrant art and craft making community that has put the town firmly on the map for those seeking to invest in fine arts and crafts... well worth a detour if you're in the area.
The four pictures I have on display there, I've entitled The Aquarelle Quartet, though they do feature in my Skye and Eigg galleries here on this website.
They have a watercolour quality about them and were captured in some of the most challenging of weather conditions I've ever experienced: high winds, driving rain, and often hail or snow. But it's the fleeting moment of wonder that I seek out, that spectacular glow over a mountain through driving squall, the wet rocks amid an incoming tide and distant mountain backdrop... and Scotland rarely fails to disappoint, the volatile weather, light and dynamic paintbox hue variations pull me back again and again for challenge after challenge. Never are the conditions the same twice and taking these pictures has required a certain patience and physical endurance... one that I relish especially when I am rewarded.
